NDCalc2 2.2

This is a comprehensive overhaul of the original NDCalc, now rebranded as NDCalc2, featuring a suite of enhancements aimed at improving usability and functionality. The updated design supports iOS7 and is optimized for the 4" screens of iPhone 5, 5c, and 5s, with retina display compatibility for sharper visuals.

The application offers a more intuitive interface for selecting shutter speeds and ND filters, replacing previous wheel controls with a more user-friendly selection method. A notable addition is the multi-select feature, allowing users to select multiple filters simultaneously—ideal for stacking filters in long exposure photography. Users can activate multi-select mode with a single tap in the toolbar and tap on filters stacked in front of the lens to see cumulative effects.

Further customization options include the ability to add personal filters not listed by default. Filters can be added by specifying f-stops, ND values, or factors, thus tailoring the app to individual gear setups. Users can also delete filters they do not own, streamlining filter selection, and reorder the filter list to prioritize frequently used options.

The core function remains consistent with its predecessor: calculating exposure times with filters based on a known exposure without a filter. For instance, if the base exposure is 1/320 seconds and an ND 1.8 filter is used, the app calculates the adjusted exposure time accurately. Users input their base time and selected filter strength to receive precise recommendations—in an example, from 1/320 to approximately 1/5 seconds.

The interface displays the calculated times clearly, including smaller annotations indicating actual times such as 3 hours, 28 minutes, and 20 seconds for exposures exceeding four seconds. For longer exposures, the app features a countdown timer that enables manual stopping of the exposure via remote shutter release—compatible with devices supporting alarms and vibrations—thus facilitating long-exposure photography with ease and precision.
